Sharpen Craft/Woodworking Tools

This sharpening method works well for Xacto knives, and most carving tools and chisels.  The Bevel Sharp Diamond Stone can be used dry.  It is not recommended to add oil or water to your Bevel Sharp stone for sharpening.

Step 1:

Hold the Bevel Sharp in one hand with the diamond stone side facing up.  Holding the craft tool in your opposite hand, place the craft tool bevel edge against the stone at a 20 degree angle with the edge of the tool facing away from you.

Step 2:

Sweep one side of the tool blade across the stone. Slowly slide the blade down the stone and sweep it in an arc as it moves. You should draw the entire edge of the blade from heel to tip across the stone so it’s evenly sharpened. Continue to run the first side of the blade against the stone until it appears sharp.

Step 3:

Turn the craft tool over and sharpen the other side. Repeat Step 2 on this side of the tool blade until it appears sharp.

Step 4:

Test the sharpness of the tool blade. If you have not achieved desired sharpness, repeat steps 1-4 to achieve the desired sharpness.  Once you have achieved desired sharpness use the following steps to strop the blade of your craft tool.

Step 5:

When sharpening is complete wash and dry your sharpened craft tool and follow these steps for cleaning and maintaining your Bevel Sharp.
