Sharpen A Broadhead

Sharpening a broad head edge is very similar to sharpening a knife.

You can sharpen the broad head on its own, or attached to an arrow, which is the preferred method for ease and safety of sharpening.

Step One:

Hold the edge of the broad head to be sharpened flat against the sharpening stone, and then tilt the edge up slightly just a few degrees until the blade edge is the only part touching the stone. You will feel the edge if the broadhead “lock” into place when you are at the correct sharpening angle for the bevel on your broadhead.

Step Two:

While holding this angle constant, run the edge of the broadhead along the stone for about five strokes.

Step Three:

If working with a single bevel broadhead you will only sharpen the side with the bevel. At this point check the blade for sharpness. If you’ve obtained the desired sharpness then you can stop here or strop the edge of the broadhead following these directions.

If you have a multi beveled broadhead turn the broadhead over and repeat the above steps on the opposite side.

Make sure to use the same amount of strokes on both sides.

Step Five:

After you have reached the desired sharpness of your broadhead, make sure to finish by stropping the bevel edge by following these instructions.
